Lustre Glaze
Reduced Arabic lustre, an endless search for perfection in an elusive art. This ancient technique has been described as painting with smoke. The glazes contain precious metals and are exposed to intense reduction over a multitude of firings in the search for the promise of beauty. Only a few pieces make the grade from each firing.
The glazes contain real silver, copper and bismuth nitrate, the tools of the alchemists of ancient Arabia who developed these fascinating glazes. Each peice is unique and glazed with layers of varied glazes, fired at different temperatures, with none revealing their character until the kiln door is opened revealing the art of the flame.
Each piece of lustre work is unique, and the range here is all there will ever be of that style. The nature of the technique makes reproduction impossible.
